« Treatments in psychiatry in most cases stabilize the patient but often lead to the development of harmful side effects. Currently, our team is studying how prescriptions partially contribute to the worsening of cognitive disorders in patients, identifying its physiological processes and the means available to prevent it. This research could lead to possibilities of optimizing prescriptions in psychiatry by monitoring, rehabilitating or stopping some treatments considered deleterious for the patient’s cognition. Limiting undesirable cognitive effects could improve patient functioning and quality of life, as well as treatment compliance, which is far from optimal in psychiatry.

We are currently in the initial phase of epidemiological research to characterize iatrogenic effects, such as anticholinergic effects.

We are looking for collaborators (physicians, pharmacists, bioinformaticians, data analysts…etc.) to share advice and recommendations with other fields of expertise or to think about new perspectives of studies on the adverse effects of prescriptions in psychiatry. We also propose to conduct complementary analyses on hospital or ambulatory prescription data in order to identify iatrogenic risks.

Finally, if the results allow it, the objective of these collaborations could be the elaboration of a prescription aid tool for mental health professionals. »
