For diagnosis and therapy - (26/01/2024)
To overcome the limitations of conventional radiotherapy (RT), a new ultra-high dose-rate irradiation technique (>100 Gy/s) – known as UHDR or RT Flash – has been proposed. It appears to be one of the most promising breakthrough RT technologies, as it not only delivers the radiation dose over a very short time interval (< 200 ms to deliver 31 Gy) but also increases the differential effect between the tumour and healthy tissue. This limits toxicity to organs at risk, while guaranteeing anti-tumor efficacy comparable to that of conventional treatments. The aim of this project is to further increase the therapeutic window by coupling this UHDR irradiation modality with the use of platinum metal nanoparticles (NPs).
